Willie Washington, a legendary leader, coach, mentor, and devoted servant of Benedict College athletics for more than 38 years passed away on September 1.

Eugene "Son" Frazier Sr., spent his life breaking barriers, serving his community and preserving the history of the Lowcountry.

On June 17, Charleston paused to mark the 11th anniversary of one of the darkest days in the city's history. Eleven years after a white supremacist entered the Wednesday evening Bible study at Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church and murdered nine Black worshippers, church members, families, clergy, elected officials, and residents gathered once again to remember lives that continue to shape the conscience of Charleston and the nation.

Retired Chief Petty Officer James “Jim” John French, Sr., was born October 7, 1926, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Thomas J. French and Anna Miller French. He was married 69 years to Olivia Jackson French. Children: James Jr (Nickname, Jimmy), Nanette, and Simona.
